Aeration

  • What is this service? 
    Aeration is the process of removing plugs of soil in order to break up soil compaction while allowing oxygen and water to reach the lawn's roots.
  • What is actually being done during my service?
    Aeration is the process of manually pushing an aerator through lawn areas in order to puncture the ground and remove a core of turf.  This core is then deposited onto the surface as the aerator spins and continues to perforate additional holes.
  • What is the difference between a single-pass and double-pass aeration?
     Single-pass aeration with the aerator: We aerate the lawn in one direction often following your mowing pattern. 
  • Our double pass aeration service includes two passes with the aerator: one following your mowing pattern, and the second at an angle to the first.

    This service is performed in the fall (September to November) or spring (March to June).  Typically, we want to avoid hot temperatures, and have access to an active irrigation system prior to the service

  • How will I know when my crew is going to arrive?

    Upon scheduling an appointment with A Cut Above Landscape, you will receive a confirmation email with your appointment details. On the day of the appointment, you will receive an “our technicians are on their way”  text notification 30 minutes prior. 

    The text message will be sent to the phone number our client provides during scheduling.  We recommend confirming that you have selected a mobile number to ensure you receive this important message.

    On the day of the service,  If the appointment is set for an AM time block, the crew will arrive between 7:00 AM - 12:00 PM. If the appointment is set for a PM time block, the crew will arrive between 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM

  • How can I prepare for my appointment?

    It is recommended to apply a normal watering cycle the night before, or the morning of your appointment for the deepest plugs possible. Additionally, mowing the lawn at a shorter height than typical can increase aeration effectiveness.

    It is the customer’s responsibility to mark all sprinkler heads prior to aeration service. ACA will not be responsible for broken heads that were not marked

  • Do I need to be home?
    We do not require someone to be home at the time of service as long as the crew can access both front and back yards
  • What will I see at the conclusion of the appointment?
    After the service is completed, if you have followed the appropriate preparation for the appointment, your lawn will show a considerable amount of core plugs, which are pieces of soil pulled out of the ground.

  • How long will the service take? 

    An aeration service takes at most thirty minutes, depending on the size of the lawn.  Our team is trained to create efficient paths to cover the entire surface of the turf, and can often complete this service in less time, with multiple technicians working simultaneously to aerate the lawn and blow the excess plugs off the sidewalk.

  • How frequently should I have this service performed? Is this a recurring service? 

    Aeration can be performed multiple times a year.  We recommend aerating in both the Spring and Fall and when your lawn will have access to a watering source. 


Payment Info

  • How does the billing/pricing work for this service?
    This service requires a valid credit card on file to reserve an appointment. Customers may choose to prepay at the time of scheduling.  If a client decides not to prepay, their card will be automatically charged upon completion of the job. Both options are available via our online scheduler.

Cancellation Info

  • Can I cancel at any time? Is there a penalty for canceling? How do I cancel/modify my service? 

    For cancellations or changes to an appointment,  we advise our customers to notify us at least 48 hours prior to the appointment date.  This notification is imperative to make the necessary arrangements with our operations crew.  For prepaid services, the refund will be processed within 3-5 business days.  

    There is no cancellation fee if the client cancels through their confirmation email or through our office 24 hours before their appointment.

    Our customers have the option to make any modifications or cancellations online; this can be done via the confirmation email sent out after the appointment has been scheduled.

Fertilization

A one-stop location for customers to learn about our fertilization seasonal service.

 


Fertilization

  • What is this service? 

    Fertilization involves distributing nutrients to the turf through an even application of granular pellets.   Starting with the backyard, while working their way towards the front, our team uses a broadcast spreader to disperse the fertilizer.  Once the fertilization application is complete, the crew will blow off the sidewalks, driveways, and hardscape to remove excess pellets.

    The fertilizer we use is Richlawn Prorich 14-2-5 2FE 4S, it is a granular fertilizer that doesn’t contain weed killers or pesticides as it is a feed-only fertilizer.

  • What is actually being done during my service? 
    Our broadcast spreaders distribute fertilizer in a fan-like pattern in all directions over the turf.

  • What will I see at the conclusion of the appointment?
    After the service is completed, you may be able to see the granular pellets of the fertilizer at the base of the grass blade.  Once the fertilizer interacts with water it is quickly absorbed into the soil, and will no longer be visible to the eye.  

Timeline/Frequency

  • How long will the service take? 

    A fertilization service takes at most thirty minutes, depending on the size of the lawn.  Our crews have a fertilizer spreader that works best at a walking pace.  Our team is trained to create efficient paths to cover the entire surface of the turf, and can often complete this service in less than 15 minutes, with multiple technicians working simultaneously to fertilize the lawn and blow off the excess pellets

  • How frequently should I have this service performed? Is this a recurring service? 
    Fertilization can be performed multiple times a year.  We recommend spacing these appointments out by six to eight weeks.

Overseed

  • What is this service? 
    Overseeding is the process of spreading grass seed over your existing lawn.  Our overseeding service includes double pass aeration, after which we will spread seed designed specifically for Colorado lawns. 
  • What is actually being done during my service? 
    Our double pass aeration service includes two passes with the aerator: one following your mowing pattern, and the second at an angle to the first. Our broadcast spreaders distribute grass seed in a fan-like pattern in all directions and cover a wider area than drop spreaders.

  • As a customer, why should I want this service completed? 
    Overseeding is vital to help thicken your lawn and fill in bare spots, which can reduce or eliminate competition from weeds. The double aeration creates more surface area for the seed and minimizes compacted soil allowing the yard will get more nutrients to the root system.

    After the service is completed, if you have followed the appropriate preparation for the appointment, your lawn will show a considerable amount of core plugs, which are pieces of soil pulled out of the ground.   The seed should be evenly spread through the turf sections, paying particular attention to filling in bare spots.  Often the seed can be found by spreading the existing grass blades apart and examining the soil at the base of the blade.

2022 Sprinkler Winterization

A one-stop location for customers to learn about our winterization seasonal service.

 


 

Sprinkler Winterization

  • What is this service?

    To prepare a sprinkler system for the winter, we need to clear water out of all the lines of the system.

  • What is actually being done during my service? 
    We use compressed air systems with industrial-grade regulators to “blow out” the water from your system while not exceeding the pressure ratings of your system components.  In addition, we will close the supply valve, and valves on the vacuum breaker while leaving your drain cap open to drain water in case of a valve failure. Your timer will be turned off. 

 

Service Benefits

  • As a customer, why should I want this service completed? 

    When irrigation lines contain water during freezing temperatures, the water can expand and burst the lines.  Sprinkler Winterization is important to prevent costly damage to your sprinkler system

    We recognize that you’re trusting us with the well-being of your system, and we stand behind our work. All of our winterization services are warrantied as long as we provide the activation service in the spring.

    In addition, we can set up return visits if your irrigation system requires further repair or upgrades. 

 

Optimal Timing 

  • When is the best time of year to have this service completed? 
    We recommend winterizing your system before the weather encounters freezing temperatures.  Colorado weather often allows for activation between September- November.  We recommend earlier winterizations, as our warranty is void if you winterize after freezing temperatures, and damage is suspected.

    Sprinkler winterization is performed by our seasonal service crew. This team consists of trained experts who have the knowledge, materials, and tools to perform all seasonal services.  This crew cannot perform repairs or installations during a winterization appointment. 

  • Can this crew perform additional services during my appointment?
    To ensure that all clients are serviced with enough time to properly complete their appointment, our routes follow a strict schedule with appropriate time restraints. 

    We recommend reaching out to our office if you need to add additional services to your appointment.  This includes broken sprinkler heads. In addition, this crew will not have, installation, mowing, power rakes, or irrigation repair equipment with them for their appointments.
  • How will I know when my crew is going to arrive?

    We do require someone over the age of 18 to be home for this appointment if your supply valve is located inside your home.  Failure to do so will result in your winter warranty being voided.  If the water is still on, and our crew cannot winterize the system.  The client will be assessed a $25 trip charge, and a repeat visit will need to be scheduled to have the winterization completed. 
  • What will I see at the conclusion of the appointment?
    Once your system is winterized, you should see your timer turned off.   You will also notice that your supply valve will be closed, and the valves will also be closed (at a 45-degree angle)  on your vacuum breaker. Your drain cap will be loosely left open to drain your pipe if the supply valve fails, and prevent additional water from refilling your system.

  • How long will the service take? 
    A sprinkler winterization service takes at most thirty minutes, depending on the number of zones in the system.  Our crews will have multiple technicians working simultaneously to offer a quick and efficient service.  If a system needs a repair or upgrade, an additional appointment may be necessary. 
  • How frequently should I have this service performed? Is this a recurring service? 
    Sprinkler winterization will only need to be completed when you close down your system for the season. Please remember in order to qualify for our winter warranty, your system needs to be activated by our crew in the spring.  Our calendar is open for the entire year, which allows you to schedule and prepay for your services in one sitting.

    A Cut Above Landscape is able to install smart irrigation timers in new or current systems.  Smart irrigation systems tailor watering schedules and run times automatically to meet your landscape needs. 

  • How does a smart irrigation system work?
    In only a few clicks of your smartphone, you can change your irrigation zones, schedules, and controller settings.  This smart timer can calculate and personalize zone preferences and water distribution based on your landscape.  These products maximize irrigation efficiency by reducing water waste while maintaining plant health and quality.

    Clients can rely on the smart system to provide suggestions if they are unsure of which changes will best benefit their property. Smart irrigation systems use sensors to collect weather and solid moisture information to determine the irrigation need of the landscape. This information is used to automatically adjust watering cycles to improve efficiency.  

  • What is actually being done during my service?
    Our irrigation crew will arrive on your appointment day with the proper tools and equipment needed for this installation.  We anticipate installing the smart timer in one visit.   

For cooler month installations- our crews will install your new smart timer, and then credit your account for an activation appointment.  The second appointment is necessary in the warmer months, so our crews can run through an active irrigation system, and set  your watering schedule.

For warmer month installations- our crews will install your new smart timer, and then activate your irrigation system.  With the active system, our crews can set your initial schedule settings, which will allow you in only a few clicks from your smartphone, to change your zones, schedules, and controller settings if needed.

    Your Smart Sprinkler Controller will water your lawn in an efficient and automatic manner. This typically helps you save 30-50% on monthly outdoor water bills.  Clients can worry less knowing their system will automatically adjust their watering schedule based on the weather and season.  In addition, customers can control their entire sprinkle system right from their smartphone if any manual adjustments are needed.

    At the conclusion of the appointment, your irrigation system will be set and ready for the upcoming season.  You will notice that you have a new irrigation box as well as an app on your smartphone.  Your irrigation system will not be activated unless you request this service at the time of scheduling.

    Installing a smart irrigation system will take approximately an hour and a half. 
  • How frequently should I have this service performed? Is this a recurring service? 
    This service is an optional installation.  We recommend updating your system if you are interested in saving money on water bills, using less water, and having a more efficient automatic watering system.

  • How does the billing/pricing work for this service?
    This service requires payment in full at the time of scheduling in order to reserve the appointment. The amount to be paid will depend on the number of zones you have at your property.

  • What is this service?

    An irrigation audit is a service call we offer to our customers who report Irrigation system issues.

  • What is actually being done during my service?

    During an audit, our technicians will evaluate your system to determine if it needs any repairs or upgrades in order to operate efficiently. The visit includes 30 minutes of labor which may be used to investigate issues, make minor repairs, and/or prepare a quote. 

Service Benefits

  • As a customer, why should I want this service completed? 

    Our experts are able to identify current problems as well as offer suggestions for repairing or improving your current system. During this service, our technicians are also able to complete minor repairs that can be resolved during this 30 minute appointment.   If the proposed irrigation treatment requires additional materials or time, our technicians will provide a quote for a repair appointment.

    The sooner you catch any issues the better!  We have irrigation services available year round, pending crew availability with our current calendar.

    This service is an optional service which is necessary before an installation or repair can take place.   Our calendar is open for the entire year, which allows you to schedule and prepay for your services in one sitting.

     A Standard Clean-up includes shrub trim, perennial/ornamental grass cutback, leaf/debris cleanup and disposal, a finishing mow, trim, and edge. Our service can be customized to your needs to ensure that your yard is looking its best.

    End-of-season services are often overlooked but are just as important as spring startup services! Leaves & debris left on the lawn or in planting beds can smother grass and plants, promote disease, and attract pests. The purpose of a yard cleanup is to remove debris to ensure that your lawn remains healthy throughout the dormant season and comes back strong in the spring.

    Services are billed per man-hour and will be subject to a $50 disposal fee. You have the option to set a monetary or time limit to ensure the job stays within your budget. A 50% deposit due at scheduling is required in order to reserve the appointment.  Customers will only be billed for actual time on site even if they reserved more time than needed.
